Company Overview: The crown jewel of downtown Fort Worth, the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall was named "one of the top 10 opera houses in the world" by Travel & Leisure Magazine. This acclaimed, 2056-seat multi-purpose facility is the permanent home of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theater (formerly Fort Worth Dallas Ballet), Fort Worth Opera, Cliburn Concerts, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, as well as special presentations by Casa Mañana and Performing Arts Fort Worth’s “Hall Series”.
Business Challenge: Increasing demand by their Patrons and an unparalleled commitment to customer service caused the Bass Performance Hall management team to reassess their existing web presence. They found their e-commerce functionality lacking in ease of use, data capturing, future marketing capabilities, and static information services. A difficult to navigate web site made the user experience frustrating. Numerous on-line sales were lost due to users terminating the web session out of frustration. The need to inform patrons of all Bass Performance Hall services such as Children's Education, Rentals, Donations, Surveys, and Calendar of Events was not being addressed in the current website.
CPB, Inc. Solution: Completely redesigned the look and feel of the website in order to enrich the users web experience. Additionally, a more intuitive website navigation system was introduced to provide ease of use in searching for events. Routines were created to enable patrons to search events by month, date, type, and artist before committing to purchase.
Substantial savings were achieved by developing the solution with open source technologies including Java (JSTL / Servlets / JSP) and a PostgreSQL back end.
The Business Benefits:
On-line traffic is up 30% in the Events Section alone. On-going
marketing efforts are much more strategic as campaigns are targeted
on a case-by-case basis. A 60% website administration cost savings
was realized due to the database driven design, along with increased
positive feedback from numerous on-line patrons.
